Monica Belițoiu
Monica Belițoiu is the Executive Director of the Romanian Secular-Humanist Association (ASUR), where she leads efforts to promote secularism, critical thinking, and human rights in one of Europe’s most religious societies. A lifelong advocate for freedom of thought, Monica has contributed to Humanists International’s Freedom of Thought Report, highlighting the challenges faced by non-religious people in Romania. She has spearheaded projects such as the Science Calendar, now available as a mobile app and adopted internationally, which makes scientific discovery accessible to schools and the wider public. Monica also works as a humanist celebrant, conducting some of Romania’s first humanist wedding ceremonies, and continues to champion inclusive education and secular values. Guided by curiosity, resilience, and a commitment to ethical leadership, she has become a leading voice for humanism and secular rights both nationally and globally.
