Bill Angus
Dr Bill Angus is a writer, academic and humanist based in Aotearoa New Zealand. He spent his early adult life chasing the rock’n’roll dream, touring and recording with top producers - Muse were his support band. Then he retrained in English literature, earning a PhD in Renaissance drama and publishing a string of acclaimed books on Shakespeare, informers and early modern culture.
After 25 years of university teaching in the UK and NZ, Bill now mostly just writes, both fiction and nonfiction. His latest book, Divorcing Jesus: Atheism for Absolute Beginners, offers a lucid guide to life after Christianity. It maps a journey from evangelical faith to the wide skies of secular humanism, mixing insight, humour and a good dose of sanity. He still plays music (his last album earned 5 stars from Muzic.net.nz) and occasionally trains New Zealand’s jockeys how to fall off horses.
